 Respected all,

We purchase 51 types of national and international magazines for our library every months ; next year dumped them in scrap as per our organization's policy. Occasionally users demand old magazines and even ready to purchase for their personal use, if we sale old Magazine as per their requirement, then it will be a source of income of library. What should we do? waiting for your valuable suggestion.

Hello madam,

One more thing that after bound the magazines you can take them under the accession and gives them specific no also like LP-01{LIBRARY PERIODICALS-01} .But all this things is only depend on our college or school . Are they allow this or not.

Hai  Madam

It consist of valuable information seeking for researchers and post graduate students. So Please just preserve it by making bound volumes.

thank you

Dear Madam,

Old Magazines should go for bound ( Compile ) and and keep it in the library, it will also increase your library bound volumes numbers,

if your library do not have space to keep those then u can go for sale for the same..!!!

you can convince your management by explaining this, and change the system..!!!

Dear Arundhati,

I feel that u want to know the extra copy of the magazine title,(to which u hve displayed and purchase for the fulfilment of the information to the readers requirement for the specifice Course , which is running there) while u have already arrange the same title Volumewise in bound format for the readers of your library. you can offer for the exchange / Gratis / donation of the multiple copies of the magazine , and the u can indirectly fulfil/achieve success  in the dessimination of information by being an active library professional. By considering to sell to earn some finance will stop the process of dessimination of information in some of the cases.

It's a good Idea but only in case the users do not demand for that material at all. If they even rarely demand, you should not sale out the same. It's all about the rare material, because if the user come to you and you say, I have sold out then it goes against the laws of library science (especially against 1st to 3rd law) as well as the ethics of librarianship.

So you should take utmost care while taking decision in this regard.

Thanks a lot..

well said ..!!!
