it is right, but responsible for this condition of lis professionals are those persons who are getting degrees from distance education because after getting degree they want to do job what so ever they get salary.

Distance education in library science this is very bad.BLIS & MLIS must be add only regular course not in distance mode.

SIR JI I M NOT AGREE WITH U THAT DISTANCE EDUCATION IS VERY BAD IN LIS.

EVERYBODY CAN'T BE ABLE TO DO REGULAR COURSES.

MAIN THIS IS KNOWLEDGE I.E. THEORETICAL OR PRACTICAL, U R GETTING BY DISTANCE OR REGULAR DOESN'T MATTER.

IF A MLIS PROFESSIONAL ACCEPT 2000-5000 SALARY THEN IT SHOWS ONE'S ABILITY. I THINK "WO ISSI LAYAK HAI"

HMARE DESH ME REGULAR MODE ME BHI DEGREE DISTRIBUTE HOTI HAI SIR JI

DON'T GET IT WRONG.

you are absolutely right

i am not agree with u just think we are not responsible for our poor condition bcz most of our professional posses only degree but no practical knowledge. and those got practical skill those not facing this problem like u. dear improve ur practical knowledge and also books knowledge and prepare ur self for competition govt provide us a lot of opportunity but this reality every educated persons not able to got govt job. mr mukul  aggarwal say that he changed his profession but this is not solution.

it is absolutely right

no i am not agree with you, because everybody decided his own position, so don't think negative

U r right library profession is going spoil due to corresponding or its short time degree course .

and in privet sector very few salary and in government sector no vacancy but and all state have no library act , so  I think its  I have not done Mlib. I am so sad after done M.lib. .................................its not respectable field ..

 so ............................U r right

do not do job on less salary .

but some people have problem so they have to do . .............................

yes sir r 100 % correct

Dear Sri Virendra Kumar Pandey,

You are absolutely true as I see the picture today. There is no denying that 99% of the Librarians did not choose the profession out of love or passion. Almost all of us studies LIS to get a job & this is by far the most important reason of the gloomy image.

Frankly speaking the profession had never been very glamorous, but it was not as bad some 30-35 years ago. I completed more than 30 years service in the profession and in those days, there were no distance modes of educations &/or Open Universities. Never-the-less, only a small number of Universities used to teach LiS. So the pass outs were small in number & there was market demand for Qualified Librarians. Even people could bargain for higher salary even in Govt. sector.

I did it myself. I got THREE additional increments at an ICMR Institute and within a week of selection to ICMR, I attended an interview in a Ministry of defense organization & got FIVE  additional increments!!   In today's context, it may seem unbelievable & people may feel that I am blowing my own trumpet but those days were different and Librarians had to do all sort of work manually! As such, the competence & performing abilities used to count as users were entirely dependent upon the ability of Librarians. Now, the situation is entirely different. Users are no longer dependent upon Librarians like those days and the importance of the service & the profession has been diminished to a great extent. Never-the-less, many of us, who come under the category of SENIOR had been extremely reluctant to render pertinent service to users. As such, the image of the profession had been adversely affected & many users victimized by nonperforming Librarians presumed that Librarians are basically lazy & indulge in spurious activities. I heard such accusations from many researchers & academicians. Even in present days, many of us who enjoy monthly salary in six figures are extremely reluctant to do jobs. Eventually, it sets extremely bad example among the junior colleagues & the management.

So you see it is quite a complex problem. For remedy, as I personally feel, if Govt. can  restrict the pass outs to less than 500 per year & set some process of evaluation of existing Librarians as mandatory, the situation can be stable within next five years.

You are right sir but today librarians are taking degrees for job only not for passion and challenges

otherwise there is no problem of job in India and another thing they are not updating in latest technologies and other thing which an institute requires

V.K Pandey ji aap bilkul theek keh rahe hai itni salary to kuch bhi half day ka kaam karke
earn ki ja sakti hai
