Dear Sir,
I think the Level of a Journal either it is A National Journal or International journals can be identify from place of publishing................
If the Journal is Published in our country (India) then National Journal.............
If the Journal is Published Out of our country (out side India) then International Journal................
some journals may be International level which are publishing in India.Although those Journals Count as International for foreigners but those Journals we can't count as International Journal for our library if in India.
In other word The Journals are Publishing in ur country are national for you, Others Journals Publishing out of ur country are International for you
Respected/Dear Professionals,
I try to describe which was in my knowledge.
Please Suggest me if any other Judgement for selection National/International Journals
with Regards,
NIRANJAN
It is a bad concept of judging the standards in a journal by National/International.. Even bodies like AICTE also doing the same mistake. They should ask to subscribe Peer viewed journals or Impact factor journals.
Srinivasji thank you for your suggestion and you are right its not the correct way to judge this concept so lets see some other suggestion hope to get good suggestion.
Yes Niranjanji I also thought the same thing regarding the Journal level but I am not getting the exact clarification for this concept so I am just hoping to get it in this forum from some experts and thank you for sharing your ideas about this concept
Thank you Rajnishji for your views about the concept.
Dear Sri G.P. Dixit:
Please consult Ulrich's International Periodical Directory (try for the latest edition) and you will get all the information.
Since I have no idea about your list, I can not or rather should not comment upon them but all I can say that the Ulrich material records virtually all standard periodicals Internationally. As I understand all University Libraries have that Directory in their reference section or with the in-charge of periodical section.
I have seen the earlier comments by Sri Niranjan Mahapatra and Sri Rao . They are 100% correct. However, I'd like to add in this respect that may international publishers have their offices in India and many of their journals are published from India presumably for cheap production cost. It will not be fair to name them but I feel most of you are familiar with them. Now, how can I say that they are Indian Journal? So it is a rather complex question and to ascertain qualitative level is extremely critical. We do have world class journals published from India, for example, I am naming two: Current Science and Economic and Political Weekly (popularly known as EPW) You visit Libraries in Western Countries, you will find then there!! Incidentally, there is one Indexing journal in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences called Guide to Indian Periodical Literature. It includes around 330+ Journals in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences published from India. 65% of the journals have frequencies less than four times a year. And never-the-less many of them are quite late in publication. That means those journals do not get sufficient articles for publication while the EPW, (which, as I understand, is not covered by any International Indexing or abstracting databases like ECONLIT or Sociological Abstracts or SSCI owing to their editorial policy) is published weekly and in time. Regarding Scientific journals, especially, on Medical Science, please see the IMSEAR (Index Medicus for South East Asia) which used to be published by WHO SEARO under HELLIS Programme. I understand that many university Libraries have a copy of that journal. Go through the list of Indian Medical Journals you will get an idea of standard Indian journals in the field of Medical Sciences. Recently, the UGC has introduced a norm for publication in ISSN journals for career advancement of academic staff. Many Colleges and Universities started publishing their own journals with ISSN so that the teachers can show that they have PUBLISHED IN JOURNALS with ISSNs!! I can say without much reservation that many of those journals have no standard. In case you want to ascertain the standard, please try to locate them in International databases like SCI, SSCI, ECONLIT, PUBMED, Sociological Abstract, Chemical Abstract, Biological Abstract and those on Physics and Mathematics and Engineering Sciences.
I hope I could answer you query with requisite example
