The applications of knowledge management have now spread to other organizations including government agencies, research and development departments, universities, and others. The management of information has long been regarded as the domain of librarians and libraries. Librarians and information professionals are trained to be experts in information searching, selecting, acquiring, organizing, preserving, repackaging, disseminating, and serving. However, professionals in information technology and systems have also regarded information management as their domain because of the recent advances in information technology and systems which drive and underpin information management.

As a learning organization, libraries should provide a strong leadership in knowledge management. The most important mission of public, academic, and research libraries is to expand the access of knowledge for their users. Libraries should aim their knowledge management goal high. Below are examples of what librarians can do to improve their knowledge management in all of the key areas of library services.

 Knowledge resources management
 Resources sharing and networking
 Information technology development
 User services
 Human resources management
Thanks a lot to all of you i am no more interested to read such a long articles.

Thanks again

Cheers!!

Knowledge management is an emerging field since 1990.Knowledge management is a complex process which deals with creation,acquisiton,packaging and application of knowledge. It has following steps.
1. Knowledge collection
2. Organization
3. Data protection and presentation
4.Dissemination of knowlege information.
There was a time when role of libary and information professionals was to collect,process and disseminate the information to their users but now there role has been changed and is not restricted to information managemet only. They have to play major role in knowledge management programmes and identifying,acquiring,developing,storing and sharing of Knowledge. Library professionals have to manage relationships with external providers of informations and knowlege and negotiate with them.
Library professionals should have the following knowlege:
1.Knowledge about library information sources for assets products and services.
2.Knoweldge about where these sources stored and thier use.
3.Understanding of knowledge creation process and impact of knowledge.
4. Information literacy skill,creating finding,sharing and using
Thanks a lot.

I appreciate your comments on Knowledge Management but here we are talking about the role of LIS professionals in Knowledge Management. Where we people of LIS Profession stand in the consideration of Knowledge Management. That is i am looking for.

Anyway thanks a lot for your effort. Very Well done & keep it up

Dear LIS friend!
LIS professionals are playing the successful role as K Manager in corporate sector, which can be as.
for searching the relevant information on any topic;
after searching, organize it, which is beneficial for organization;
and represent the information in simple way to users, according to their needs.

Same role librarian is performing for his organization.
I must say here, KM is very vague term, when anyone used word KM, they feel little bit proud on themselves.
according to K mangers tacit knowledge can't be transmit to others, may ask one Q to them, if tacit knowledge can not be transmit, than 'what is any book on physics'. As i am observing, book on any specific topic is the experiences of particular person, and experiences of particular person's is tacit knowledge of his/her. So in this way the tacit knowledge is transforming to others.

I must say here, K manager is the different word of librarian.
I can say in my own language, "KM kuch hain hi nahi ye sirf ek nya tarika hain, Librarianship ka. mai to un sab logo se ye poochta hoon, jo kisi corporte me job krtye hian, aur apne aap ko Knowledge manager kahtey hian, ki wo kya kaam krety hian. mai ek baaat aur kahunga yahan ki jaise magagement science me heavy heavy words ka istemaal hota hai, waise hi librarianship me KM ek word hian. suppose hum hum kisi ki samne kahtey hian hum librarian hian to saamne wala kahta hia, librarian!! kitabe hi sabhaaltey hooge, Jab hum kahhenge ki K Manager hain to saamne wala kuch nahi bol sakta".

i don't mean to hurt any knowledge manger here.

thanks
