Dear All,

I want to introduce BAR Code technology in our Library shortly.

I want to know the cost involved to purchase BAR Code stickers (around 60 Thousand) and laser gun for reading.

I also want to know whether the suppliers can impart trainings to our staff so that  we can fix the stickers all by ourselves to cut the cost.

Kankana Baishya has practical exposure of introducing barcode technology in two different types of libraries. She will get back to you shortly regarding this. The total cost for 60 thousand book with two printers and two reader likely to be below 1 lakh.

Dear sir,

1. Barcode Labels

We are using the NovaJet labels for barcode stickers there are different types of sizes are there you may choose Novajet Label-48 (stickers) or  NovaJet Label - 65(stickers). It comes with 100 sheets packet each . It may cost around Rs. 300/- to 350/-

There are pre templets also available on net for the same.

2. Barcode Readers

Coming to the barcode readers you may go with Honeywell Eclips models which are very well in terms of regular usage. It may cost around 3,500/- each.

3. Laser Printer

Based on your budget you may choose the general photo copying laser printer for printing barcode labels. Do not go for barcode label printers it is very costly,

Regards

K Srinu

Dear Srinu,

Can you please tell me which software are you using for  bar code generation?

Dear Siddu,

We are using ID Automation font for barcode generation, It can be available on net. After installing the ID Automation fort in MS Word you can generate the Barcodes using mail-merge option.

With Regards !

Thanks Srinu,

That was really good and useful information for me.

Sir, the unit prices of the equipments we are using are furnished below,

Brother Label Printer (Model- OL 700) = 10000 Rs (Approx)

roll Barcode Label (62 mm or 29 mm) =1000 Rs (approx)

Laser Gun Reader = 5000 Rs (Approx)

Dot Matrix Printer for Receipt (Model- TVS RP-45 Shoppe)= 9000 (Approx)

Roll for dot matrix printer= 100 Rs

for 60000 books you may require,

60 roll of barcode labels=  60000 Rs

1 barcode label printer  =  10000 Rs

2 receipt Printer           =  18000 Rs

30 receipt roll               =   3000 Rs

2 Gun Reader              =  10000 Rs

The  implementation of the entire system wont exceed 1,10,000 Rs.

Supplier must impart  trainings to inhouse staffs as printing barcode is the frequent and recurring need of the library

We are using SOUL Software, so SOUL2.0 have submodule for Barcode and spine lable generation facility. we are generate by that module and get print on A4 size papers. it's easily readable through barcode reader or gun.

60000 barcode labels will cost around Rs. 1000 [desmat stickers]
U can use any laser printer to print barcode.

U can use desmat software for printing or any other barcode printing software.

Barcode scanner comes @ Rs, 2000

Thanks to all,
Dr. Barman, Sri Srinu, Ms. Kankana Badan, Ms. Vaibhavi Thaker Kodrani & Sri Apurba Jyoti Majumder for your valuable suggestions. Now I can safely put up the budget.

Here in Kolkata, I was sort of confused with several suggestions from different quarters.
Thank you all once again.

Sincerely,
Siddhartha S. Ray, Calcutta

how many staff u have?

Barcode can be generated from almost all library software.

There are bar code printers looks like billing machine. Cost of it make of TVS is around 10000.00.

Only rolled bar code papers can be used for it. These are easilyavailablee in Kolkata. The papers are mat finished and durable. But rolls are costly.

We bought these kind of printers and rolls, but as I told these printers take time to print and rolls are costly we bought simple HP lesser printer and Desmat self adhesive A4 size label of 4*10. Per sheet has 40 label of good sizes. We also took two copies of each barcode for pestling. As the papers are less durable as compare to roll labels we use to put 1.5 inches transparent tape on bar code.

There fore the ultimate choice is yours.

100 sheets of Desmat label -Rs.225/- (4000 label)

lesser printer as per your choce Rs.6000-10000/-

Transperant tape & tape cutter as per requirment.

Scanner- hand held TVS Rs 3000/-

Stand alone scanner Rs.9000/-

Can we Print any Language (specially in bengali language) call No.
