dear proffesional , please help me to know what is abstracting and how it is different from indexing ?

Abstracting : it is a process of preparing an abstract indicating the summery of a text/ article or document including the bibliographical details of the author where the users can get the full article/ text. it is totally based on author language.We can not put our point of view in the abstract. on the other hand indexing is a process for preparing an index. index came from "indicare" term. it means to point out/ indicate the terms,place etc where the full text will be found. it can not provide the summery of a text/ document.
