THE WORKSHOP The purpose of the Workshop is to familiarize the participants with the KOHA Open-Source Library Management System (OSLMS) developed in 1999 by Katipo Communications, New Zealand. Koha is con sidered as a highly sophisticated web- based ILS, with a SQL database backend and accessible via Z39.50 or SRU. The user interface is very configurable and adaptable and has been translated into many languages. KOHA has most of the features that would be expected in an ILS, including: OBJECTIVES To create an awareness on the benefits of using Open Source Software, To introduce the Linux operating system to the participants. To provide extensive exposure to develop an expertise by thorough training, tutorial, demonstration and hands-on practice to the participants so as to enable them to work independently. To acquaint with the installation of KOHA on Ubuntu platform, customization, Data Migration and implementation to the participants. To equip the participants for managing KOHA at institutions with Large collections. To exchange information, knowledge and experience in using KOHA for Library management. THE PARTICIPANTS The Workshop will be of immense benefit to Working Library
Professionals , LIS Students and Researchers. Extensive practical sessions/hands-on- training, enriched with interactive sessions will be the hallmark of the Workshop. The number of participants is restricted to 40 (Forty) and admission will be strictly on a first-come-first- served basis. WORKSHOP FACULTY The Workshop will be handled by experts with extensive practical experience in Linux and KOHA. The core resource persons are: Mr. Vinod Kumar Mishra , NIT, Rourkela Mr. Kapil Gupta , NIT , Rourkela REGISTRATION The Registration Fee is Rs. 2100/- (Rupees Two thousand one hundred). An early bird intensive of Rs. 100/- will be provided to
them, who register themselves before 30th April, 2016(fee- Rs.2000.00). The fee covers the cost of workshop kit, course materials, lunch and tea. The fee should be paid in the form of Demand Draft or MICR Cheque drawn in favour of “JHARKHAND INFORMATION & LIBRARY ASSOCIATION”, payable at Ranchi, or may be transferred directly to the details given below:
