Dear all,
I am writing this note, not to complain about someone, but to ask that is there any place where we youngsters can get a job? Yeah! there are lots of jobs advertising every day from different organisations from different places. But, are those really want to recruit? Sometimes they forgotten about the advertise or cancelling it or recruits but no applicant is called for any test. They demanding 500-1500 rupees as form fill up charge and doing the same. Some institute if called for an exam, then they are taking a simple examination and declared that everyone has failed, no matter how many candidates has come. After that, it is found that an internal candidate who is presently working there has passed and got selected. If you decided to take him/her then why you are calling us. We are unemployed, our money, time, efforts everything is wasted.
Again qualification is another problem. I know very little about eligibility criteria. Bit, some institutes did too much. 'Required MLIS (regular preferable)' why? Candidates from open/ distance universities are full duffer? Then experience, Library assistant required ex- (2-7) and of course from reputed organisation. Really, 7 years? Some institutes want trainees with 1-2 years of experience. Where the hell from we get experience if we never get a chance to work? Freshers has no value?
Then salary, recruiter demands these, that, those and many things, then pay the proper salary. Some are providing 5000-10000, and job responsibility list is huge. Really, in this market? Recently in a train a gutka seller shouting I am earning 25000-30000 a month.
Now I have a strong feeling that if you have quality, patients, talent; if you are sincere, hard worker, moral then you may not get a chance to work. If you have worked in non-reputed organisation or private sector then torn and throw the certificates. But if you have a long hand or strong back or that type of character then throw the worry in the dustbin.
Please tell me I am wrong, my thinking is wrong, my observation is wrong. Because I badly need to hear this to respect my profession and professionals.

Dear sir,

I appreciate the survival policy. But I think a slight difference is there between survival of the fittest and getting a job today. At the time of survive, neither you need to present yourself in front of someone nor someone has the power of chose you for some purpose. At the end you found nothing. If survival of the fittest really applied here then no need of this post/ discussion.

Talking about associations and federations, I have started my LIS journey from a well-known association in India. Till then I have seen what is happening there. No need to explain that.

Lastly, I am not taking this personally. This is an overall picture. If I am not selected, that is my fault. If nobody is selected then it need to think about.

Dear Rahaman,

I think you have spoken  behalf of the representative of thousand & thousand unemployed youth in India not only in our profession but also others. Each and everybody those who get position today in their won effort I salute them! But still today some youth those who have done their degree to get loan & do the good result also, but he/she has no strong back up & naturally he/she has not habit to mustering the oil to anybody, they are like worthless or nothing to get in this society. For that he/she may be a overage or loss the patience does not matter to anybody. So I tell to everybody that start to zero & start to something both are not same. Another one interesting thing that toying in your mind regarding the salary, in this respect  I want to share my experience now I am in multinational corporate library which is called data center & my position is library assistant, all the facilities I got from here like launch, medicine because of I am in part of  the system that'why, but I have nothing to say or disclose regarding my salary in figure  what I get from here, so your assumption in this respect is not irrelevant. So I again say you that our voice will not vain, once " We Shall overcome this problem" & system will be changed definitely when some honest people still now with us.

Thanking you.

With regards,

Sumit Chakraborty.

Kolkata.

Dear sir,

Position changed only when you became the member of the system and denied to agreed to go with the wrong. Our problem is that we struggling and got a position and then started the same thing to the people who are rejected/ unemployed. They became the part of the system. Its look like in a hostel, seniors are ragging to juniors. When the junior became senior he started ragging to his juniors.

Dear Janab, Wasim Rahman Saab,

Thank you from the deep of my heart for opening your feelings in this forum.

I thank Dr. Barman also for sharing his experience as well.

You see the beginning of life in profession often become Topsy-turvy for almost all. very few lucky people are exception. So don't loose heart. We all have saga of grief and distress in professional lives. So don't be upset.

Govt. organizations often recruit people out of compulsions. I attended an interview in a State University Librarian position where the internal candidate who was not selected at two successive interviews (declared NONE FOUND SUITABLE) was called for the third time (against the norms unless he/she make any special contribution during the period) and was selected within LESS THAN 60 seconds!!. Other candidates were Dy Librarian in a Central University, Librarian from an Institute of National Importance & Myself. It was exposed that they called us to have "at least three candidates" to fulfill the norms only.  Even the VC, as I learnt later in that evening itself, lamented that they could not recruit me as the most suitable candidate!! So you can understand under how much pressure the highest authorities are to work!!

Regarding the pay, this is very simple. if there are plenty of candidates, the wage drops! exactly like in the market place. When there is plenty of yields, the price drops.

Regarding the open Universities, It is a fact that the standard of open universities are quite uneven. I had experience of a colleague done B.Lib. from an open university & doing M.Lib.was pathetically poor than a certificate holder in Library Science but s/he had a degree and was close to the authority in a Private Medical institute. I know a person with whom I worked for quite a couple of years, passed out from another open University with excellent theoretical background and practical knowledge.

So it is not always proper to presume that all open university students are below standard.

But the fact is when I have to sort out candidates as a recruiter, if I come across applications from candidate passed out from the same university of my colleague in the Medical Institute, I will certainly be apprehensive to sort list that candidate. It is not that degrees from all full time courses from universities running are always better.

The best way out for new comers is to get engaged in a "promising" organization and don't give much attention to Salary for at least two Years. gain experience and, more importantly, gain expertise and then try for better job.

Sincerely,

Siddhartha S. Ray, Calcutta

You are Absolutely right Sir. I passed MLIS. I am working in a private college since 4 years+ my salary is 5625/-. but here group D got more salary from me. this is the condition of our society.

Dear sir,

Like Barman sir and Siddhartha sir has said, don't lose hope. Keep the good hope alive and trying.

Dear sir,

While reading your views and suggestions a little bit of hope arising but it goes to the same as before after reading the next comment of Hafijull Sir.

Like I also replied to Barman sir that we are not thinking about figure/ position. We just want a fair chance. I also understand the extreme pressure on the higher authority, I have even seen that. I am not saying that all candidates are same, I am just saying that to recruit the eligible.

After these so much of noise, I am still hoping that something is waiting for me. I just need the effort, knowledge, skill to reach there, and I will do it.

Dear Professionals,

All of us experienced the hurdles of this profession very closely. I have been in this for last 15 years. How many of you heartily suggest your known future generation to join this profession. Like Barman sir and many of our professionals i also struggled a lot but no job satisfaction. We crushed between the administrators and academic staff. Particularly as i fill those who are working in libraries. 'N' number of designations, pay scales, experiences, etc. A clerical staff decides the eligibility of all library staff whatever may be the position. Recent example- IIT Mumbai introduced a new position in 7600/- GP and same is going to be for IIT Hyderabad. In NITs AL to DL needs 10 years exp. whereas Dy. Registrar needs 5 yrs as AR.

Now time has come for new generation who are doing Lib. Sc. degree should simultaneously try for admin job as well as library job to capture their position. Whatever our effort may be but no recognition (major cases).

thanks,

Dear sir,

your last stanza may help to change/ modify the process. lets hope for the good at least.

Thanks for your response in proper order , No one can go  on top directly ,  I also followed the same pattern like you,
