Regarding shortlisting criteria for the post of librarian in National Green Tribunal

Dear Friends,

I have applied for the post of librarian in National Green Tribunal. After the duration of 5 months yesterday, I got the information about the selected candidates for the interview and the criteria for selection is 75% marks in Bachelor of Library and Information Science. Do you think this eligibility criteria is appropriate for the post of librarian. In the advt. the eligibility criteria for applying the same post was 55% in Library and Information Science. The marking systems of all universities are different. So marks should not be a criteria for selection of the candidates. We heard several times that the marks are not criteria to judge the knowledge of the person. Sometimes due to some personal reasons students did not get better marks. The selection criteria can be a higher degree in library science or the length of experience also then why only marks? NGT should organize a written test, so that actual eligible candidate will get selected. Opportunity should be provided to all the candidates who have applied.

So I just want to know whether we can do something in this regard, I mean filing an RTI or something like that. In advt. they only gave one instruction that "The applications may be shortlisted according to the criteria as may be prescribed for the purpose". For your further reference please find the attachment of the advt.  Please help me in this regard whether I can do something or not ?

Thank you

Regards

Swati

exactly i agreed with you.Why did they just decide only for one criteria? and that too with 75%. i dont think there will be many students who got 75% in any University(as a regular)..if im wrong correct me............they should conduct a written examination if the application is in large number.

To me, a agreed with you and something need to be done.

and i wanted to know from which university they have been graduated and was it regular or correspondence..to those who were eligibility for interview.....

but anyway all the best to all those we are going to give interview.

I think, (I am not sure though, legal opinion would be required) the criteria of selection has to be challenged in an appropriate court of law and the stay has to be obtained on selection as early as possible)

Take appropriate action against this INJUSTICE.

I think it is totally wrong decision by National Green tribunal. They have asked BLIS + two years experience in library and a desired qualification Diploma in computer. Question of 75% does not arise for screening.

Kinlyput RTI to authority for proper action. It is just arbitrary decision.

Dear Dr. Imam,

what do you think should be the RTI query? Will it help?

Hello,

This is really a very important issue and thanking you to bring this issue before all library professionals. As personally i will condemn selection criteria for Job selection. In regular study there are very less chances to get 75% or above.

We should associate again this type of selection criteria as LIS Professional.Everybody should get fare chances to appear in screening test or interview. This will affect many... definitely it is not my personal issue or problem but should be voice of all Library Professional.

All should comment on this burning issue and support for this cause for the welfare of LIS Profession.

Thank you,

MANOJ KUMAR SAHU

exactly......Sir, getting  even 70% in a Regular Course is "rare". the decision really suprise me.

I have also applied for the post of librarian in National Green Tribunal.
but iam not shortlisted

in advt, they said that 55% and 2 year exps,
now they said that 75 %

if they can said it before only the candidates who have secured 75% marks, only apply to this post.

this is injustice.

Dear Ms. Swati,

Thanks for your post and for exposing the issue in the professional forum.

Really, it is a burning example of blatant injustice and certainly it deserves protest.

I have gone through the other posts (seven altogether so far and I expect many more within a short while from now)

I thank you all personally for the solidarity.

However,  as I feel, before proceeding to any legal activities, please go through their advertisement.

Please see whether they have mentioned the statuary sentence "mere fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria does not entitle any candidate to be shortlisted  for interview &/or selected"

If they have mentioned in the advertisement, I do not think much can be done legally.

I do not want to dishearten any one but I just mentioned it so that you can act accordingly

Sincerely,

Siddhartha Shankar Ray, Calcutta.

Sir,
Can you kindly explain how the inclusion of the sentence "mere fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria does not entitle any candidate to be shortlisted for interview &/or selected" in their advertisement will absolve them (The Tribunal) of any legal obligation?

Dear Mr. Siddu,

The thing is simply, they have made it clear in advance that they retain the autonomy to call candidates according to their discretion.

I am not aware of its legal consequences though that is why I proposed to go through the advertisement once again.

But as I understand this particular sentence safeguards the advertisers from legal hassles. In an advertisement this particular sentence saved a reputed National Research Laboratory from legal hassles  a couple of years ago but in those days there was no RTI in force.

Sincerely,

Siddhartha Shankar Ray, Calcutta
