NET is going to be compulsory for all PhD & M.Phil holders

Sir ,correct your statement

The question is not that Ph.D. is easy or not but NET is also not very difficult. If any one has gone through the M.Phil and Ph.D process he/she will always clear the NET too and more over twice in a year.

So get the NET clear and say that you are truly eligible for the same, why to quarrel on educational issues.

regards

vijay

these days getting PhD is very easy by paying money and getting adjustment with the guide.i am not agree with this statement .this statement is not true because some research guides are very strict and done very well. only a few research guides does like that.

I have gone through the post and learnt the news.

I have also seen the different reactions among our forum members.

The issue of "quality" is quite debatable to me.

I have gone through the questions and their patterns in some of the NET examinations and I can not say that their standards were impressive!! Many of the new gen people may stamp me as orthodox but In my personal perception, the evaluative systems of various NET exams are not befitting for at least for evaluating quality of individuals who are supposed to undertake Academic/Research careers!! By way of this comment I am not undermining the people who have qualified in that tests, rather, I am pointing my fingers towards philosophy behind the evaluation system itself.

It is a bare fact that teaching of courses (of any subject) in different universities varies qualitatively so also the examinations. NET is one  that is supposed to evaluate all such university pass-outs in a Single Uniform Scale for evaluation of people who are supposed to teach in Colleges/Universities and conduct research.

But the point is in case the scale (like the pole in High Jump competition) is not fixed at proper elevation, the result will be erroneous!! I am sure that nobody believes that Objective type questions are just and proper to assess the ability of an individual seeking entry in the arena of Higher Education & Research.

Between M.Phils & Ph.Ds a distinct difference exists. One is a time bound class based course added with a dissertation out of certain amount of research. while, the other is entirely a research endeavour without any class room involvement/intervention. It is a fact that we do not have any qualitative standardization of Doctoral Research.

Had it been made mandatory to publish at least Three papers out of a Ph.D thesis (one in Foreign & two in Indian Journals of standing) the situation would have been somewhat different.

A couple of weeks ago a list of Ph.D Theses in LIS for the period 1985-2005 was posted in this forum. There were 640 titles from various Indian universities. I am not going into details of their contents, but of course like to add that from the lists of Ph.D Theses appearing in University News regularly, it is not very difficult to understand their quality and it is applicable to virtually all subjects.

Again, the Ph.D holders and present researchers are not my subject of criticism, it is the system at which I intent to point my finger. Why they have not made it mandatory to publish Three papers in standard journals. (I am not mentioning the Peer-Reviewed or ISSN journals etc. etc. It should be the standard journals  and we all know which are they!!) If need be, the UGC can publish a list of such journals in their websites which can of course be reviewed over definite interval of time.

The UGC at times acts quite whimsically. Sometime they increase the qualifying marks in NET exams and sometime decrease them. This is absolutely improper. How will it sound if the CBSE authority fluctuates with its gradation marks in different years?? and more importantly NET is a competitive examination and naturally its impact is more intense.

Therefore in case the UGC makes NET mandatory, it may also seriously consider restructuring the NET evaluating system so that NET qualified candidates  no longer need to queue for jobs in schools or opt for other professions.

Sincerely,

Siddhartha S. Ray, Calcutta

I agree what u say sir, today to do Phd, universities having a fee structure which is showing moderate amount but after completing phd course u will be getting 3-5 lakhs. how is this happening for whom u r paying the amount. obtusely every one knows where the amount is going. what i mean to tell u is what about poor people from where do they get money and pay the huge amount.there are real research professional but due to financial problem they could not do Phd. Due to corruption in education in some places. UGC have to thing of this and do the needful for poor people.

Dear sir,

1. See very honest research guide for PHD course if you want to join

2. If you qualify JRF UGC aslo giving money for doing Higher education like M.Phil, PhD

3. SC/ST/PH Candidates can get from some contribution from central govt for studying higher eduction

4. Education loan also giving for higher eduction if you are not a govt employee and so on

so poor people also can study their wanted course now, because government has given so many schemes for studying higher education

5. Consult your studying place senior most LIS Professionals they will guide you

In india mostly poor peoples are there sir, so these all are the ways

so we are Library professionals we should not criticize our profession, our moto for studying this course for guiding, helping students and all kinds of library users, we have broad knowledge about all resources

according to your statement few persons are there in our field they should change their mind their-self for getting money from students, but mostly very nice persons are there in our LIS field, this is the situation now sir,

these are all my opinions

have a nice day

Dear Sir,

Thanks for invitation for Phd research guide thank u once again regarding higher education schemes, schemes are their for SC/ST/PH candidates what about other general candidates. there are many poor people in general cat.  in india as per my knowledge there are no schemes. sir regarding corruption education i mentioned only in some places not all places. there are honest research guides, also u r one among those people i agree i hands up u all sir. but please try to understand i am talking about poor people education through out our india.

very good decision by supreme court...

yah achcha kadam hai kyonki aaj bhi Phd  charan chho kar ho rahi hai entrance to matra ek dikhava hai

Dear Ms. Shraddha Sahane,

I am extremely elated  to go through your extremely hilarious comment yet a very sad discourse on award of the Degrees of Ph.D.

But is it always true that ki Sabhi Ph.D Balon ne  Sirf Charan Chho kar hi Degree Hasil kiye hain?? Hame to yeh pura sach nagi lagtaMera yeh ummid hai ki bahut sare oyise vi log hain jinhone kafi mehnat ki hogi; kafi parai ki hogi. jara unke bare vi to socjhna Chahiye.

Maine Suna hai ki Ph.D bikta vi hai; par kya har Ph.D Balon ne oise hi Degree Hasil kiye hain? Main ye iljjam PURA SACH Nahi maan sakta hoon!!

Par aap ko comments ke liye Bahot Bahot dhanyabad!!

Sincerely,

Siddhartha S. Ray, Calcutta

(P.S. I apologise to all concerned if my Hindi is not correct; because primarily it is not my dialect and if by any chance I have written them correctly, the credit obviously goes to the Hindi movies, I so avidly watched in my youth!!)

Dear Mr. Siddhartha S. Ray

I would like to tell you that earlier when there was no entrance exam for getting chance of doing PhD, it was only research guide who decides that the candidate is suitable for doing PhD. In that condition the decision can not be said objective, it is most of the time unfair and unjust.

Now there is a formal entrance exam for PhD, but still the process is not fair as the entire process like paper setting, evaluation, interview etc. is under control of Professors of University. And the decision rests with them.

Shraddha madam is NET qualified and having teaching experience in university, and she was not considered eligible in interview for doing PhD, but many duffers got selected for the same. I am too NET qualified twice but my story is the same as of Shraddha madam. And people talk about the quality of research in library science.

Dear Sri Ganesh Singh,

Thanks for your post and I must tell in the very onset that I certainly understand and honour your sentiment.

I am in this profession for several years and I fully understand what goes no. I do not want to discuss those nasty issues once again but my point has been that NOT ALL should be placed in the same bracket;  that's all!

I have learnt about the experiences you (& Ms. Shraddha Madam) were subjected to.

Now I am putting before you a real life question:

How do you feel if you have written five full chapters of your Ph.D. Thesis comprising Seven chapters altogether but at the last moment were unable to submit because of Gudie's discretion??

Does it mean that all guides are such?  I don't' believe so.

So  you see these are all ways of life. As I could gather from your profile picture, you are a young fellow. So please don't lose heart. So also Ms. Sahane. Certainly you will find an able guide and will complete your Doctorate and above all, as you will find a true mentor as guide, you will voluntarily feel that Unko Charan Chhune ki man karta hai!!

Best wishes,

Siddhartha S. Ray, Calcutta
