I think you are right. i am also suffering from the same problem. Even after qualifying NET i am not getting the job according to my eligibility. Now i am thinking  to switch to another option.

I agreed sr

you are absolutely right chandrashekhar

correspondence is not responsible for all that nowadays staff & student cannot want to struggle in this field. In library Science field main jis level ka kam hota hai management use hisab se salary laga dati hai simple mahnet karoge to salary bhi acchi mil jati hai.I think mahnet kar ke acchi salary mil jati hai library field se acchi field nahi hai.....

WELL SAID SIR

sudesh you are right

Dear Friends,
As the situation is very worst in the market for LIS Jobs. Quality in education should be increased why IIM, IIT people have not plenty of jobs becuase quality always matter and Our Library Association should come forward and play a real show to stop the factors which involved for present librarians miserable conditions.

I appreciated your thinking.I also request to our professionals to avoid this type of job.other wise we ll losses our identity.

Dear All,

I have noticed that some of the members are embodied with the idea that in my post my comments relating to Distance mode of education is quality oriented!

I want to inform you all that my comment was quantity oriented!

The huge number of pass-outs that overcrowded the scenario of employability in LIS profession is mostly because of such Distance Modes of Education/Open University System. Universities providing class room based regular system of education have definite intake limits (like, say, 40 or 50 students per year) while through one single open university, 1500 students can enroll for B.Lib/M.Lib Course in a year & if 60% examinees are passed out, the number becomes 900 in a single year

With so many open universities functioning, there is extreme possibility that yearly 9000 to 10, 000 new genre of qualified library professionals are ADDITIONALLY BEING ADDED to general pool of pass outs through regular class room based  education. My point of concern was ADDITION OF such huge number of professionals every Year has virtually jeopardized the employment scenario as Supply is many times more than actual Demand . In Market economy if supply surpass demand, the price falls. And this is exactly what happened in LIS job market. And I am absolutely confident about this statement!!

On the other hand, since I am not well aware about the quality of education by most of the Universities, I can not & should not (& I HAD NOT) make any comment on this aspect. Never-the less, as I personally feel, the syllabus of IGNOU is better than many universities providing class room based education.

Sincerely,

Siddhartha S. Ray, Calcutta

Assuring Quality in Distance Education for Library and Information Science: The Role of the Library

With the liberalization of higher education in India, many universities have started correspondence courses. They offer many traditional subjects in arts and humanities and professional courses such as library and information science (LIS). The number of students taking part in these courses is increasing every year. But the institutions are not providing student support services, especially library and information services.

LIS Distance Education in India

Several universities in India offer LIS courses through distance education. The courses vary from certificate to M. Phil. level. But the library and information services offered by these universities to students are negligible, except in regional offices, which usually undertake the registration and examination functions of the university. The libraries in these centers are neither equipped with a substantial collection nor provide services to the students. The students of these courses are hence facing difficulties in getting the required information for completing their assignments and examinations. They face the examination without any supplementary reading. The literature useful for professional courses like LIS is not usually available in the public and academic libraries nearer to them. It is the responsibility of each university and its library to provide students with the required resources. The quality of the courses can only be assured by establishing student support services like library and information support.

Yes sir....u r absolutely right.......It is because of quantity......that we r unable to find the better job in this field.....and there is big difference between IGNOU n other universities....so it should be changed

एक मेरे दिमाग में विचार आया है कि क्यों न और जब भी कोई जॉब निकतला तो  दूरवर्ती शिक्षा के लिए अलग से CRITERIA बनाया जाय I क्या ऐसा ही होना चाहिए ?
