Dear professional friends

Kind attention: More for new comers

I have been observing by asking to my friends about their interviews, they attend. Just for my personal information and also to be known about the trends. I have reached to a point, which I want to share among you all.

Generally, what we do after our college, we try to search job, and it is required for everyone. We read lots of content on the interview skills, we ask with our friends, about their experiences and all other.

This observation and communications leads us to read the fresh content on happenings in domain and further, preparation of questions asked with our friends. Being an, aspirants, we ask to each and every person how to prepare and our friend shares their idea on this issue. But, the most important part, we always miss that is preparation of syllabus that we have been reading in college.

Generally, in panel the experts asks very normal question in expectations of the expert answer.  But we miss the opportunity by delivering a normal answer, incomplete in nature, unstructured vocab.  etc.

I would like to suggest to all those who are attending interviews, kindly prepare the expert answers of questions following the syllabus and then pattern. Don’t go to waste your precious time in expertise skills and all much. Try to focus on answer part only, which should be effective and exact to the bull.

Discussions will remain continue

Good Luck!

Thank You Sir, Dr.M.VEERACHAMY

Dear Munesh,

A good post indeed !! As you said, discussions will continue further. I can say you that, presence of mind matters the most. I had felt this after completed the interview, that i should have given this reply and why it haven't came to my thought at that moment. Any way, we can't assure of giving answers for all the questions asked. Every interview becomes the learning experience and the way we are tuning ourselves to tackle the question also goes better. To my least knowledge, preparing for the interview after receiving the call letter won't work good. A passion for professional learning and consistent preparation will help us good. A number of questions will be puzzling us, to say they may might ask about this and that, but the questions will be so simple and basic about the subject which would be far from our assumptions.

If you are doing phd, a definite question is there about your ongoing research to say what hypotheses you have framed and its in what stage etc., Staying casual, cool and smiling makes the interview light i feel, though hard to follow for me too.

with regards,

Raaga.

Thanks, Ms. Ragga

I always prefer to put things open for discussion because it brings the best contents left in previous. I am quite agreeing with your points put as extension my post. I thank you to add those here.

I have covered the knowledge part only. Knowledge of subject mentioned in your syllabus. I have prepared the points to continue the discussions further, which are as follows:

Presence of mind is a state of virtue which comes with experience, knowledge, learnt from the happenings only. It is directly related with your past. Hence, knowledge is required.

I 10*10 percent agree with you that preparation can't be done in very short period of time. Neither I do nor do I promote for it.

Questions are always correct means questions can’t be wrong. It always comes with some meaning in form of answer. There are many types and kinds of questions, for examples, simple, complex, puzzle base, observation base etc. etc.

As I have mentioned that panned always ask the simple and easy question but once should deliver the expert answer. This gives the better impression on them. Here one should apply their presence of mind to choose best word in best rhythm.

For PhD student I don’t know what to tell but I would like to add to keep in mind all the points discussed along with your points.

I always follow the ways as you have mentioned your own ways... present yourself with smiling and cool attitude in Interview. This smiling attitude directly related with your study and understandings over the subject and domain, without knowledge you can't be cool in interview if you really want to win over.

Thanks…

Well, well it’s a fantastic debate and I would like to contribute. Dear giving an interview and facing the interviewer, is a difficult task I have ever been experienced but it can be made easy & comfortable by regular practice, efforts and struggle.  I am quite agreed with the above discussion. Actually what is our deficiency grip on our subjects?

Some time the students have full command on their subjects but unfortunately we don’t express our point of view in front of the interviewer by not using proper phraseology.

Yeah what’s matter that’s answering by properly clothing your words, face the interviewers with full confident and limit yourself up to the point what has been asked.

Let me highlight that some time even the interviewer does not consider the level of interviewee and ask such questions that are totally beyond the level of interviewee. So the level of interviewee should be kept in mind while interviewing him/her.

Best Regards,

Neado Khalil

Thank You Sir, Neado Khalil, for your analysis and extension of discussion...

I am agreeing with you, what you have mentioned herewith, but I have little bit confusion in the statement ‘phraseology’. If you follow and read the contents of experts on Interview skills, you will find that they states to put or deliver the simple words, no jargons, no such words which only you knows and other person belonging to different domain don’t know. For example, librachine, cluepage, PMEST, ect. etc. Being in library profession, we all can define these words easily but other cant’ even understand the meaning. We have to care the interest of the each individual in panel. The panel may consist of expert from other domain or out the domain. Generally, management and administrative officers are also called nominated for interviews in govt. sectors. They have different knowledge; experience in their life belongs to different domain. They are also equally distributing the marks like other experts in panel.

Interviewer only ask the questions related to job, role & responsibilities, salary, the subject you been thought and circumstances related with you only. If you have been asked questions from other domain or out of periphery of your domain in past please be prepared to say that “I am sorry Sir that I am not able to answer this question because it belongs to <domain name>. Since you don’t have knowledge of the subject, you should not reply in wrong sense.

Sorry, I am not able to understand your sentence stating, “What’s matter that’s answering by properly clothing your words”. Please clear it to make better understanding.

Yes, you are right here, brief your answers don’t go for long answer, try to fix the length of you answer at a desired level according the situation and timing that you can assume being a candidate.

One more thing I would like to mention that be ready to answer, let the ask anything.

This type of enthusiasm one should have before taking steps inside the interview hall.

Thanking You for making better discussion…

Dear Munesh Kumar

Actually the members of an interview  panel are of a different domain but certain questions have to be answered by using the related terminology whether the rest of the members understand or not. Certain terminologies may confine to specific area/discipline and it’s not necessary to make the entire panel understand. You have to elaborate your answer in such way that makes the concerned member understand.

Sometimes we have full command what has been asked by the interviewer but we don’t have proper vocabulary to support our answer and that’s make the difference and don’t convince them in the way what has to be.

I don’t know why nowadays they emphasis on English too much. I have seen brilliant students/candidates who have a lot of knowledge but unfortunately they don’t express their answers in English as they can in their native languages. I would like to suggest that interview may be taken in native languages as well in case where candidates feel hesitation in English.

Best Regards,

Neado Khalil

Dear Sir,
Neado Khalil
Now there are two opinion comes out, one in my view and second one is your. I repeat to my view again, if you want get more marks from entire exert then you should use the simple, clear and understandable terminology not any phrase or complicated word so that every person could get you.

I also follow to your view given on same issue counter to mine.

In order of clarification, I would like to suggest to all, if you have any issue related to vocabulary please create your own vocabulary by reading, listing, writing and remembering because, vocabulary can’t be built in a day.

If we talk about the language related issue, like you have raised here. I don’t have any personal comment or complement on your views related to the language. But, I would like to add one thing that keep your preparation for interview by observing the culture and environment of the organization where you are looking a job or you want make carrier there. Means, prepare and learn the language according the needs, it might be Hindi or English.

As I have heard from the sources that if you are not frequent in the language, you may request to panel to talk in the language in which you feel free and better.

Thanking You...

It’s just my point of view, you may not agree with me. its not a matter that the entire panel does not get you, what matter if the subject specialist doesn't get you in the matter related to subject.

you have just to make the entire panel understand in the matter not related to your subject.

Actually the high qualified panel doesn’t consider the level of the candidate. They were also candidate once and they should keep in mind the level of the interviewee.  Sometime I have observed that they ask M Phil, PhD level question from a candidate who has just completed his/her gradation.

A man can’t be able to make understand all the member of the panel because of their different domain because a member may be from physics, chemistry, and political science domains, so how he/she can be familiar with the terminologies of library science. Just need to make understand the subject specialist. As for as the nature of an institution/organization is concerned where the candidates is going to be interviewed, he/she must has the basic knowledge about that institution. And the interviewer should confine themselves asking question within that basic knowledge.

ok, I got your views and your way of doing the things. I don't have any more comment on it.

"Sometime I have observed that they ask M Phil, PhD level question from a candidate who has just completed his/her gradation."

what does it mean? don't forget that you are talking about an interview skill not any written exam. Please tell us how you can observe an interview? once it is not related with you.

And what does it mean by high qualified panel? have you meet any not qualified panel ever?

If you time please clarify to these two above phrase.

Thanking You...
