I think it will be fine if you have additionally included, what can be done to boost the confidence level of library professionals in Library scenario. But no problem it is actually a very good article.
By checking all the comments below, that also in a professional forum with around one lack followers and this much hits for this article, I feel that our professionals can do better in their response. The main purpose of forums like this is to discuss various issues but most of this particular article’s responses are like good article, very good job done…etc. At least I think those who are reading should put just two lines from your experience and that will be a great for the forum, for the people reading the forum and of course the author will like that and will be ready to answer your queries related to that, since he had already burnt a lot of midnight oil for that.
Any way we are reading good articles because of the hard work of some of the great professionals in our group. So let me tell you about something related to confidence if you are free!!!
Confidence can do wonders for any professionals, if it is related to the profession like Librarianship with direct connection to social development or national development it becomes our responsibility to cultivate that at the younger stage of our career. I think we Librarians should think and analyse the various ways to get our professionals into that level immediately. A confident librarian will be creative because he is always sure about his future course of action and the solutions to tackle the immediate problems. So how can we ???
In India Librarianship curriculum is designed in such a way that it has nothing to do with confidence boosting. We are not getting the hands on training in updated technologies or we are not learning that in our course thoroughly. Are we getting ready to impart the services as done by our western country counterparts at that level when we complete our study ? Then how can we?
A professional course is not complete without proper training. So have it. Before taking the new assignments right after the course go for a proper training there you will get to know about various information services, standard procedures in the document processing, human management techniques…etc. These things when you learn by your own by continuing in a job, it will take a huge time from your career before understanding it properly and in between there is a chance that you might get a loser tag or hit low level of confidence. Right training at the right time for the right person can also make wonders like that. During that training you can also try for the UGC-NET, one advice please go for descriptive content also. Only objective may give you a NET certificate butI can confidently say that, that will not make you a better professional so please go for some descriptive also. Try to read outside library science if possible because when we get to know the practices in other subjects that way we can improve our services in that discipline and in such a way start a creative service by our own.
Use the internet at its maximum, participate in forums, read about the practises followed by the western networked libraries and analyse why we can’t? If any doubts ask your librarian, I mean ask him. I can here surely say that you will be amazed by the amount of knowledge some of the back stage library staff possess. They may be out spoken may be a little bit shy but what you will get when you ask them about library science will outclass some the expert’s knowledge in our field.
If you are imaginative, that can also do wonders for your confidence. Like you are during the training course just think that you are in the position of some of the staff there and what you will do extra for the good sake of Library or how will you start a new service or are you aware of all the procedures in that section and you will be able to give a 101%. Just imagine that and understand the difficulties try to solve it there by consulting your Librarian.
Last and most important I feel is the attitude for hearing, attitude for learning and attitude for serving. Create that attitude at the beginning of your career. This will also make wonders in your career.
I think this will become one part of your confident boosting programme in your career as Librarian. I hope for more solutions from experiences and detailed struggles as responses.
Thank you.
