Campus Selection in the Field of Library and Information Science

Dear Professional colleague, Librarian, Faculties

There should be Campus selection provision in our field.

I have raised this issue here, not to talk on this matter and post your comments in support or in against … but to request and force to think to policy makers, librarian and others those who are related to managerial works in their organization.

This matter may be raised earlier, so need not to put the points in favor of this demand and advantages of Campus selection. But, I would like to give some points in support of the previous and to my post also:

  • Will support in reducing the number of unemployment
  • Will reduce the tension of selecting employees
  • Introduction of Young power.
  • Growth of Course
  • Etc.

In professional courses, the practice of placement of students is followed with full enthusiasm like a annual practice by Concern College and as well as companies, recruiters.

If LIS is a professional course then why we don’t follows this practice here.

Please!  Say something…

Dear Munish,

Honestly tell me, do you feel this is possible?

If you say yes, what areas/industries/institution will you accommodate so many library professionals without alienating anybody from different regions?

Do you think there are so many vacancies to go for campus selection for recruitment?

Will campus recruitment ensure fairness and transparency in selection procedures?

Thanks to the mushrooming of universities (regular and distant/open mode) and dilution of educational standards more and more unworthy and substandard guys are now being churned out  as professionals. Add to this the corruption and bureaucracy at multiple levels.  All these factors rob proper job opportunities (which are few in number) to proper persons (who are plenty in number despite all the shortcomings). Then how will you explain the efficacy of Campus Selection for the vast number of people?

Dear Siddu...Sir,
You could say Just Yes or No.
Honestly, I have raised this matter here with the hope of its possibility.
And please don't talk about corruption and transparency; these word are made by human and for human only, just its depends on your/our capabilities and loyalty that how you taking it, in what percentage. Just to deal with this black word corruption and for our best profit, i want the campus selection. I have not mentioned that i should be 100 percent.

Dear Munesh,

I am surprised.  You raise a highly complex question involving several intricacies and want that  to be answered in simple 'Yes' or 'No'! I don't think any levelheaded person can do that without obviously explaining why.

Anyways, if you just want this to be answered with 'Yes' or 'No', then this is beyond my scope.

Thanks Sir,

I got your message, means it is not.

If campus selection is conducted for Library field, it is a Guinness Record

Sir, Please go ahead to get this golden credit, which will be a lesson for others.

Dear Sri Munesh Kumar.

I have just one question and I hope you will not avoid/by pass it.

How & from which campus the persons getting Degrees from open Universities will be recruited?

Sincerely,

Siddhartha S. Ray, Calcutta

Sir, Please ans...first in + or -
and please clear your question what exactly you want from me..?

Dear Sri Munesh Kumar,

Thanks for your reply (which, seemingly, is sort of seeking clarification of my comments!!)

As you have raised the issue of Campus Recruitment, I believe that you must be knowing there are two following components in your proposal

         (a) CAMPUS     &

         (b) RECRUITMENT

since I believe that my query is quite simple and straight forward, I intend to explain it.

If you put your knowledge of Library Science regarding one of the highly important theory of  Wall-Picture  or COW - CALF Devices, I am sure that you will agree with me that it requires a WALL to hang a PICTURE and the WALL comes first and the PICTURE follows it.

Likewise for CAMPUS RECRUITMENT, the concept of CAMPUS comes first and then comes RECRUITMENT.

I presume that it is prerequisite to have a CAMPUS for RECRUITMENT as you have put your proposal. Now, the Open Universities  are spread across the Country and beyond. If you take the example of IGNOU, its office (Campus) is at New Delhi with several study Centres and a couple of Regional Centres  spread across the country.

If you are a recruiter and plan for campus recruitment for IGNOU pass outs what will be your modus operandii?? where the students will assemble?? at the New Delhi Campus? At the Regional Centres?? or at the Study Centres??? and more importantly, do you really believe whether it is at all practicable!

I believe that you might have done justice to your query if you had clarified such issues at the onset! You are asking for Negative or Positive replies.straightway on issues which I suspect, are not fully clear to you.

I have gone through Sri Siddu's post and I Fully agree with the first two issues he has raised Campus Recruitment is sort of Advance Booking of professionals .and why do we book tickets in advance? It is only because the seats are less and purchasers are more in number. But in Library Science Profession, it is rather other way around.

If a single advertisement is published in, say Employment News (at the cost of less than Rs.10,000/-)  for five people offering just a consolidated monthly amount of 35,000/-, per person per month and a bank draft of Rs.100/- is asked for each application, one can easily get 500 applications (which will easily yield Rs. 50, 000/-)  In the backdrop of this scenario the question of Campus recruitment seems utterly impractical.Never-the-less, If applicants are 500 or more and post 5, the possibility of nepotism and corruption can not be turned down.

Sincerely

Siddhartha S. Ray, Calcutta

.

Sir, You have a deep observation of this filed.

thanks to share your views on this matter. I will keep in my mind your statement,  "Campus recruitment seems utterly impractical"

Let me wait for others' Yes Or No or up to a level

Thanks.

Dear Sri Munesh Kumar,

Thanks for your post. I 'd like to add just a few lines as

Campus Interview or even Outright Campus Selection for library professional  will certainly be possible, albeit only some 15 years ahead

If the UGC makes a rule WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT

which should be endorsed by the Parliament & Supreme Court of India

That only ONE University/Institute from each State/UT will be allowed to conduct this course and with MAXIMUM INTAKE OF

35 students for B.Lib. Sc. Course &

25 students for M.Lib.Sc. Course &

15 students for M.Phil Course.

Because if supply becomes much lesser than the demand, the market will automatically rise.

But we all know that this is just a wild imagination. And hence the picture is obvious!!

Sincerely,

Siddhartha S. Ray, Calcutta

It is nice to think about inhancing professional opportunity,,,but as per as my concern
in the way of campus selection there is may hindrance. It is quit difficult select a
person,m not talking about transparency & fairness bcz black ship prevail every fold.
