Why Librarians' day on 12 August, When Ranganathan's birthday is on 9 August?
Can anybody clear me when 9th August is the date of birth of Ranganathan why we celebrate librarians day on 12th August?

yes, S R Ranganathan's Birthday was on 9th August. But Ranganathan was joined School on 12th of August. That's why we are celebrating Librarians Day on 12th august

As per certificate, SRR birthday is on 9 August but his real birthday was 12 August so we celibrate Librarians Day on 12 August.

yes, S R Ranganathan's Birthday was on 9th August. But Ranganathan was joined School on 12th of August. That's why we are celebrating Librarians Day on 12th august.

When I posted this topic over other forum, I received the following information.
This matter has been debated and discussed on several occasions and at different forum. It was somewhat difficult to ascertain the really correct date.
During our discussions with Dr. Ranganathan during his stay in Delhi University he also felt inclined to accept August 12,1892 as his date of birth.
I feel at this juncture instead of spending our time and energy on this aspect it is better that the LIS professionals in the country make all sincere efforts to understand his Philosophy and implement his ideas in the best possible manner. User in his philosophy is supreme and LIS Professionals in the country should take all possible steps, both intellectual and technological, so as to provide services to users efficiently and effectively.

12 August is celebrated as Librarians day because the official birth date of S R Ranganathan is 12th August. This date is used for all official purposes. The Librarian's Day is declared by S R Ranganathan and naturally they will go for official date only. So Librarian's day is celebrated on 12th August instead of 9th August. By Pawan R. Agrawal. Dr. S R Ranganathan was born on 9 August 1892 according to Hindu panchangam. When he was admitted to the school his date of birth was registered as 12th August 1892. Dr. Ranganathan during his stay in Delhi University also felt inclined to accept August 12, 1892 as his date of birth. So, the official date of birth of Dr. Ranganathan was in general accepted as 12th August and this date is used for all official purposes. That's why; we are celebrating Librarians Day on 12th August.
