Wanted Koha Professionals/Koha System Administrators for an IIT Bombay Project:

IIT Bombay requires Koha Professionals and Koha System Administrators for the the National Virtual Library of India (NVLI) project, funded by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.  The main output of this project is the web portal https://indianculture.gov.in.  This project will give an excellent opportunity to work with hundreds of libraries across India to all selected candidates.  The job responsibility includes, but is not restricted to, the following:

Koha Professional:

  1. Efficiently manage the Koha-Open Source Integrated Library Management System (ILS) to ensure its smooth functioning and maximum efficiency.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in MARC21 metadata standards,  cataloguing and classification practices.
  3. Collaborate with library staff and stakeholders, providing technical support, training, and guidance on Koha usage and best practices.
  4. Stay informed about library trends and advancements in library technology,  innovative solutions to improve library  system functionality.
  5. Develop and conduct training programs for library staff, assisting them in effectively using the Koha system and its features.
  6. Take on any other responsibilities related to library systems administration, as assigned by heads/supervisors.
  7. At least one year experience in using Koha is required.
  8. Interested candidates are advised to refresh their Koha fundamentals using the following Koha course available free of cost in https://spoken-tutorial.org before appearing for the interview - Koha Library Management System (21), 21 being the number of tutorials in this series.
  9. Emoluments will be Rs. 3.6 lakh per annum.
  10. Number of openings - 2.

Koha System Administrator:

  1. Configure and administer Linux web servers to host the Koha system, ensuring reliable and optimal performance.
  2. Take charge of Koha installation, upgrades, and configurations, keeping the system up-to-date with the latest features and enhancements.
  3. Identify and troubleshoot any issues that arise within the Koha system, implementing timely and effective bug fixes.
  4. Oversee data migration from other library management systems to Koha ILS, ensuring accurate and secure transfer of information.
  5. Perform regular data backups and develop effective restoration strategies to safeguard the library data.
  6. Facilitate the harvesting of library data in Koha, making it accessible and searchable for patrons and library users.
  7. Interested candidates are advised to refresh their Linux fundamentals using the following courses available free of cost in https://spoken-tutorial.org, before appearing for the interview - Linux (17), Linux for SysAds (7), Bash (23), Linux AWK (11), Sed - Stream Editor (6), Ubuntu Linux on Virtual Box (3) - at least the first three topics.
  8. Emoluments will be in the range Rs. 3.6 lakh to Rs. 7.2 lakh per annum, the higher amount being available to exceptional candidates with many years of experience.
  9. Number of openings - 3.
