Dear Library & Information professionals, as you aware that teachers day is celebrated on 5th september in our country. We (our library professionals) also considered as teachers. But we are celebrating librarians day on August 12th. Since we are celebrating our day in different day, in working places we are considered as non teaching staff members. To avoid this clash Why we should not celebrate our Librarians day on Teachers day itself on september 5th every year?

Does it mean people who are born in January and celebrate their "Birthday" in January are over and above people born in other months?!

After all why celebrate? Celebration is but a symbolic and formal gesture of remembering something.  Do we need a day to remember and hence celebrate? Let us dedicate our duties/ services to serve the users better in the true spirit of  'LIBRARIANSHIP'. Let us celebrate our profession everyday by exuberantly serving our users in every which way possible. That will be a true celebration of the profession we stand for. For then, we the professionals are not swept into oblivion by the users/society where a special day would be required to recall, mark or celebrate librarian's day artificially!

Siddu.

P.S No 'Profession' is 'above' or 'below' , 'Higher' or 'Lower'.  It is the 'attitude' which makes it.

Very Nice Siddu Sir..Agree with You.

ha ha ha very good reply.......

Dear Sam sir
I never agree with your words.
Teachers give more knowledge by teaching by studying, analysing the concerned subject. But are librarians teaching any subject after studying or analysing? how can you say we are above teachers?

The books issued in library are not written by librarians. Books written by teachers and others which they have more knowledge and we are issuing that kind of books only.
we are issuing books which is written by teachers and other persons but not by librarians, then how can u say we spread knowledge to students?

If we are professional means, why u r telling we are equal to teacher, equal to professor? equal to scientist? is there any designation starts with equal to, plus, minus, division?

issuing book in library is similar to salesman work like issuing oil, sugar, rice, salt in provisional store.

I fully agree with siddu

hello sir(Manic Perumal)  i saw the comments given by you on siddu sir suggestions

For your kind information Librarians are future information Scientists in the world  and you know one thing Librarians can handle both teacher and Librarian Job if needed succesfully but Teachers can only be the teachers not the Librarians .Be Proud to be a Librarian don't compare to Salesman.

thankyou

Librarians are there to help, aid, assist, and teach, The childrens, adults, old people, the underprivileged, the rich, and the poor.

Librarians they do better a local community, a school, a college, an organization, a company, a country the world.

Dear Sir,

Yeasterday it was teachers day and a function was arranged inour college too by the students union. I was also invited in that function and get honoured as the teachers were. Than why do you think that librarian are not teachers.

Why Teachers day is not celebrated on 12th August ?

As per your suggestions We and teachers are same. So why teachers celebrates Teachers Day on 5th Sept. Why they do not celebrate on 12th August to avoid clash. So first please ask to teachers to Celebrate their day on 12th August instead of 5th Sept.

Dear We are teacher of teachers so we celebrate our day first that is 12th August then they celebrates on 5th Sept. after Librarians Day.

So Enjoy .... We should proud on our Profession

we live in that society where the librarians have no specific identity. some one says the librarians are non teaching staff and others say they are teachers. but our so-called learned society do not recognized that the librarians are teachers. so, it is better to avoid to celebrate teachers day or any other days.

Mr sayed  and bharat kumar good reply. Librarians  have the knowledge of all the subjects. Librarians are philosophers. they are the one who are mediator between knowledge which is stored in the form of books . Librarians are good teachers also. Librarians are considered as a teaching faculty under UGC. one should  have respect for his own  profession . with negative thoughts one can  not achieve success in the  life.

Hello madam (Saraswati)

Teachers can only be the teachers not the Librarians....which teacher is ready to come for Librarian job? no teacher likes librarian job.  somebody telling librarians are now itself scientists and MLIS is equal to Scientist course but you are telling librarians are future scientist, which is correct?
