Mr. Debkumar,

Our designation is our Foe. No academically bright student doesn't bother this field. No parents / no teachers and even no LIS teachers encourage their wards to study LIS/Inf. Sc. We must ask question to ourselves . We must introspect. We have to be open towards the philosophy of our subject. We have to be more interdisciplinary in nature. We have to make our subject meaningful, research oriented to the future generations in terms of intellect as well as recognition. Tell me one thing, Who are coming to this LIS field? Fact is that, it has become the last refuge of an unemployed. Very few of us have come to this field by choice not by compulsion. See, this is the root problem of this academic poverty and social non-recognition, you agree it or not. We all are providing service to the nation (Tecaher inclusive)someway or other. Think as a whole. LIS has become such a poor subject in practical sense, say for example , apex library of a nation may be headed by a non-librarian then the recognition of the subject among other peers is quite understandable. It never happens in other subjects. Untill we are academically more concerned not the mere technicalities , I hope no one can save us from societal disrespect.We must not forget IT is simply a faster tool and it neither makes us creative nor innovative.

Social status and respect is not given , it has to be earned. For that we have to be more academic ( not only be designation) but through performence and service. I think, a college librarian with PhD degree and good number of publication ( book and journal ) can get more status and respect than .... Actually we have to prove our worthyness...

...... Sir, I 100% agree with you. In all spheres of our life, it's true that Respect cann't be gifted, it has to be earned--- it should be the spontaneous outcome of a person/society. We should deserve that quality.

Dear Sir,

 I'm a Lirarian of Private Management College.We aren't getting the same salary as teachers with same qualifications --- it's true!  but as far as my 10yrs experience is concerned, I get much recognition when I can show my efficiency, awareness & intelligency in my area.  Really we have to make our subjct meaningful to others. The philosophy behind our subject is not merely confined within the area of ISSUING & RETURNING of books, which can be done by any NON-LIBRARIAN .Always we have to show, as a professional , our competency over the Ocean of Information. Even in this age of Information Explosion, we're the right person who can provide RIGHT INFORMATION AT THE RIGHT MOMENT TO THE RIGHT PERSON.

So "societal disrespect" can be withered away if WE can be more informative & innovative.   When a Lady from LIS professonal becomes the CHAIRMAN of WBBSE, then cann't we  inspire ourselves from this?

Hello if anybody have some problem with the profession then he should change this one. or develop some IT skills. This is no active council or Administration in this profession, moreover the librarians do not do work for their rights. We all should united and do something ourselves, nobody can't help us....DEV
